I think you hit the nail on the head Bowtie ! I didn't even look at the color,thinking 414's &811's and says 804a I think he meant 806A that's what it looks like from the tag on it.

804A could be accurate John. Also, there was a model 844 monitor that preceded the 9844, the few examples i've seen in the flesh or photos of had all green components including the 414's.

Thanks to David Yost for mentioning the Carmels. At the time i posted i couldn't think of the name. All i could think was "the Altec that's just like the Heathkit AS21".

I think Malibu's and/or Carmels could have been manufactured during part of the time the 804a was in production.

I wouldn't be too critical of your vision, seller's pic is very fuzzy, and although i'd bet a beer on it, i couldn't really "testify" beyond a doubt from that pic. But, he does say 804 in his ad title.

The 804A driver was the result of the same severe cost cutting at Altec that reduced the 604D Duplex to the small magnet 605A. Altec later capitulated and reintroduced the large magnet Duplex as the 604E, and upgraded the 804A to the 806A by increasing the size of the magnet. This difference in magnet size is not represented by the literature of the time, but disassembly of the drivers tells the tale.
